   Can dogs see ghost or spirits?
   
   It was late at night (almost 11p.m.) and I'm still watching a tv show and all of the sudden the dog of our neighbor kept on barking and growling looking at their gate. I tried to look outside but I saw nothing nor heard that someone was there. The barking and growling of the dog lasted for 5 minutes.

   My parents use to say that a dog barking and howling at a place where no one is around see a ghost..lol
   
   Maybe it's true or just another spooky story made by old folks to keep kids from wandering off the street at night..hehe

   Ghost and spirits do not exist so, no dogs can not see them.  Dogs can hear and smell much more than humans so they can hear things far off and like to bark at them.  I'd say their vision is limited.  As most predictors their vision is tuned to moving objects.  Hearing is for defense, smell is to find food.

   Dogs and few other animals can see ghosts. But the question is, what is Ghost? Ghost is actually the energy in a systematic shape like our soul. Our eyes can't see infra red and ultra violet. But Dog's eyes can see infra red which is heat spectrum. And the ghosts is a creature created of heat (spark or fire). So Dogs can see ghosts.

   My mom lived in a house, where unexplainable experiences happened.  One day, there was the sound of footsteps coming up the hall, which stopped outside the closed door.  The handle of the door then started to turn.  The dog rushed up to the door and was barking and growling.  My mom put her hand on the handle as it was still turning and quickly opened the door.  There was no one there, but the dog was jumping up at something and was growling at it, even though there was nothing to be seen.
   
   Another day, the dog was in the garden and again started to bark and growl.  The whole family then watched as the doy was raised into the air and thrown across the yard, into a door.  My granddad then let him in, and he appeared to be very frightened.

   I have been told they can. I have no dogs or cats but I believe they often follow 'with their eyes' things moving across the room that humans cannot see. What are they looking at? What makes them do that?  Are they looking at a ghost?  Children often have the same ability.  They see invisible friends and talk with them in such a way they just might be real on some dimension.
   
   When I was a child, (a state I have yet to grow out of emotionally) I had puppets that I spoke with and believed they said things to me. Was it a friendly spirit animating that puppet, or just my imagination? Who can say?
   
   The world is far richer and more interesting than many adults are willing to admit, because they cannot pay their mortgages with it. But as for children, dogs, and cats...they know something deeper.

   @Muldania I believe that there's a spirit staying in the said house that is why the dog acted strangely. Did you ever ask your mom if that house was blessed before?

   Yes they definately can and usually long before people are aware of anything. Dogs along with cats and horses tend to be very sensitive.
   
   Is this the first time the dog has done this? If so, it could just be that he has picked up something either through sound or scent. Especially if you couldn't see anything. Its amazing how dogs can pick up sounds and scents from a long distance and we wonder what on earth they are reacting to as we can't see anything, but dogs will react to strange sounds (other dogs they don't know) and of course strange smells.
   
   But if it was anything spooky, I wouldn't worry too much. Most spirits are benign and the dog barking isn't an indication that it's bad, just that the dog doesn't recognise them.

      just like when a dog barks when someone is at the door, can be a friend at door. A bark is not necessarily bad, a growl on the other hand, that is a puppy that has been spooked.

   Yeah animals can see what we cannot and that includes ghosts and spirits. Animals are still in touch with nature and we aren't. We lost a lot of those gifts. My dog when he was still alive use to look at things and bark/growl at what I couldn't see. He protected me from what I wasn't aware of. My cats follow and chase things around the house. It seems to pick on them and they retaliate back. lol it's funny to me, but to other people they look like their spazzing out.
   Young children are like that to until they are told "these things do not exist" and then their true eyes close.

    Animals see the dead. though you may not see or hear they can. If they can sense danger, why not the dead? then again i grew up in a very interesting family so this kind of talk is of common conversation. (0*o) were strange.

    I think dogs can see Ghosts or spirits and they react by howling uncontrollably. This is one of the most common myths I heard during my childhood and I think its somewhat true.

    When I am about to get really, terrible bad vertigo, muscle pains one on my dogs that I have had years, will lay on my feet.  I know it is time to lay down.  I believe dogs can feel things also from far away like vibrations.  For example the idea of putting your ear on a train track to feel the vibration of a train coming even though it is still miles away, not heard or seen yet.  I believe they also feel static example from thunderstorms differently than we do or not differently but just more sensitive to it.  I believe it is this "static" electricity of sorts that they can also feel that we as humans do not.

    They have special eyes that can somewhat see in the darkness, the creatures that lurks in the dusk but I can't prove or say that they can see ghost, they just bark whenever they feel dangers its there stimulus.

    Absolutely, positively, and without a doubt one of many abilities that we so readily ignore or don't appreciate. 
    
    Dogs, horses, cats, and most other animals have an uncanny ability to see, predict, and sense events, spirits, and auras that most of will never understand or give them credit for.  Just look at the use of dogs now for epileptics to warn them of oncoming seizures, or horses and cows when they gather in a pasture long before a storm is coming.  They are used now in hospitals, for therapy, autistic children, etc., etc., etc..    There is that undeniable ability to sense those that are not of good intentions and those that have a loving heart.
    
    I have been a dog, horse, along with just about any other animal you can think of owner most of my life, and love them as I believe my creator intended.  I now have hound dogs whose sense of smell and auras is greater than I have ever seen.  They are my family and all to often have made me wonder what they are looking or talking to when on three acres, there is nothing to be seen or heard.
    
    Maybe someday we will learn to love and appreciate the many unbelievable ways they could improve our lives and stop the abuse so readily given, but never deserved.

    Yes, they do. Why is that? They are more in touch with the spiritual realm then most humans. All animals are. People struggle with the subject of demons, angels, ghosts, spirits, ect. all the time. I grew up seeing demons, so did my animals. My dogs would get locked in rooms, growl at walls, they would be scared to go into certain rooms at times. I know to the average person, I likely sound crazy, but when you have been attacked by a demon, you can't deny them.

    all pets withouts exceptions see ALJIN . who are not ghosts or spirits but reasonable creauture who r invisible for our eyes and have different skills such as flying and diving and most importantly able to take any shape they want and imitate any sound . they can come in the shape of any person u know alive and died alike . u can call them demonds if u like but they r not all evil as many people think , they are created to worship God like us . u will find the good and the bad ones . in Islam we believe in them . they will go paradise and hell like us . u can protect yourself from the bad ones by reading or listening to quran and saying some prayers .

    I do agree that dogs and cats are sensitive when comes to accessing nature. It can be true that it can sense spirits better than humans. Further more, their hearings are much better as in detecting high frequency sound which we are not able to do so.

    I believe animals like Dogs and Cats have a higher connection with the spirit world, resulting in them being able to see and sometimes even interact with spirits.
    
    I've had numerous times where my dogs and cats (I have two dogs and two cats, by the way) would start acting weirdly, while simultaneously I'd get a feeling, or a drift, etc.

    I know there have been 3 times I can think of where I KNOW by the way my dog acted that she saw something that we cannot see with the natural eye. I believe it was an angel or demon. It happened once in my apartment back in college when she turned facing the corner by my door with all the hair on her back standing up and growling and barking while she stood between me and "it" like she was trying to protect me. It freaked me out and gave me the chills. I was hesitant to go over there, but I opened my front door to see if maybe someone was outside by the porch and there was no one to be seen. The other two incidents happened more recently when I got home from the store. My mom let my dog outside in the front yard. As soon as she saw me get out of the car (and it was dark) she starting making a very disturbing sound that I've never heard from her before and I've had her many years. I know my dog. It was the most terrifying sound I've ever heard, but it was obvious she could see something either on me or over my shoulder. Even when I got closer to her, she backed away and growled and barked even when she could clearly see it was me.  She had also peed on the sidewalk where she was standing. I thought she was going to bite me. You could tell when it left or when she could no longer see it, because she calmed down and allowed me to pet her again and put her in my lap like I always do. People were afraid or terrified when they saw angels in the Bible, so it could have been a guardian angel that was hovering over me.

    It may have been a spirit with harmful intentions against you and your family.  May be the neighbor dog was trying to protect and scare whatever he saw, that you couldn't see, away!    If was a good spirit, the dog may have whinned softly like when meeting a member of the family!  Yes, I think they can, that's what's special about our animal friends!

    Yes they can. Once when I had an OBE, there were two dogs who knew I was there. They both came close to me and one even sniffed me. For those who don't believe in or have never had an OBE, I'm sure this sounds ridiculous, but it is true nevertheless.

    Though I don't believe in ghosts (angels and demons, yes, but not ghosts), I think that animals have a way of sensing things that we simply cannot comprehend or understand.  It's eerie but it's fascinating, and I think it's something that has helped countless people, as many people here have mentioned, in regards to predicting weather, seizures, etc.  A very interesting topic.

    Dogs have the inbuilt power to see the presence of ghosts near them that Human simply can't. Of course humans can also see the ghosts but only with the help of some sophisticated electronic gadgets i.e. used by the paranormal experts. It is a matter of belief that when a dog is sitting calmly suddenly jumps barking and runs towards something which is not visible, it shows that the certainly something is there to be believed . Not only dogs but many other animals like cats are also known to see unnatural things which are invisible to human eyes.

    I have heard that cats, dogs and new born child have the ability to see ghost. Same thing happened to me a lot, when I tell them the possible reasons, my sis and my mom get so scared that the wouldn't sleep that night

    Yes , they are spiritual creatures . They are use by some  magic create by  God. At the beginning  God created animals and men with the women. It is on the Bible on Exodus in the first paragraph.  I experience, something similar. My dog save my life. It was late at night. She started barking. I was alert. Then, I listened seven or more gun's shot. Next day. My neighbor was fund  death in his house.  My cat was special.  I love my cat.  My cat did things for me that  I will always remember. You  have to be tune with them.And they have to love you like you love them. Animals hear better then us. They go by the sounds. I like your question miss jeanniedoe.

    Yes, I believe that dogs do see spirits. My dog did this looking at nothing and barking. I saw nothing but my dog keep barking and growling. Animals are sensitive to things we can not hear.

    Animals have a heightened sense of our surroundings than people do. Of course people are taught to not trust their senses if they can't see it, feel it, touch it etc. so most of us close ourselves off to our sixth senses.

    Yes, Dogs have got some special feature, of seeing some objects, which we can't notice. So, sometimes, we will find dogs barking at odd hours, even, we have no kind of noise outside.

    While it is true that animals like cats and dogs can sense changes in the environment before we can, there is no evidence to prove that the spontaneous barking your dog is having is from seeing a ghost.  It's possible that something Un important to your eyes may be upsetting your dog or cat, but it doesn't mean there is a ghost around.

    As a matter of a fact yes they can. hey have a sixth sense that humans have but humans choose not to use it. dogs cant help seeing spirits. i remember my dog he seen my dads friend and my dads old dog. because i seen them too. it was so sad i literally cried. Dogs have this ability and sometimes they arn't seeing something that is there to us but something we cant actually see.
    Also you can always tell there is something there when they stare into a dark room and there is nothing there or the way the act in a certain room or space. Weridly proven but it's a great ability for humans and animals of nature.

    Unfortunately  my grandfather died in the house that i live in now. Ever once and a while always late at night when i bring my dog inside from going to the bathroom she sees something. Something siting at the top of my stairs ( i live in a two story home ). She stares at it contently and nodes her head as if she wants to play but nothing is there. If it only happened once with my dog i wouldn't believe, but my dog Ruby and my grandmothers dog both do the same thing, stare at the top of the stairs, waiting for something , but not once have i seen anything besides the cold feeling that it could be my gramps.

    I heard as story a year or so back about a cat that lived in a hospital.   It was a pet.   This cat had an uncanny knack for knowing when a person would die and would go into that person's room and stay the night.   Inevitably the person would die.   
    
    On those occasions where the person recovered - or didn't die that night even though expected to by hospital staff - the cat wouldn't enter and stay.   It was as if the cat could foresee whether or not that person would die on that particular night.   If is was so, the cat would come in and stay.   If not, the cat didn't.   It was as if the cat could see or sense that the end was imminent.

       I would say normally yes.  I think animals do have extra sensory capabilities.  My dog is a big exception as he doesn't even react when someone comes to the door.  I guess there are exceptions for everything!

       Come on Tom, coincidences only go so far; it's pretty clear that the cat was killing them.   It used to be common knowledge that cats would "suck the air" out of babies mouths.  The nurses should have stopped the cat after they noticed a pattern.

    Yes they do. Many are the times when my dog barks and growls for nothing even when I can't see anything. My dog hated my neighbor and barked loudly whenever she sited her at the gate. It happened that my neighbor died and my dog kept on barking everyday until when she was buried. The funny thing is that she barked every day at the same time, 3:00 pm, gazing at the gates edge where my neighbor used to stand before ringing the gate. When she was buried, nothing happened and we just hoped that her spirit had rested.

    I think they may able to sense things we can't, whether it be because our subconscious simply doesn't want to, or our brains have not yet reached the capacity to do so.
    
    I get my theory based on those times where you are in a comfortable and normal setting, but suddenly hairs stand up for no reason and you get an uneasy feeling like somethings just not right, but you don't know what.

    I believe they can see things that we usually can't, so I'd agree with the yes answers.
    Cats can, too. Our three track things at the same time. In fact, the day one of my grandmothers died, one of our cats followed something around the room I happened to be in. I thought she was chasing a bug or something, but I felt a chill and light pressure on the back of my head, as if someone was touching me, just before I noticed my kitty sitting at my feet, staring at a spot just behind me. Shortly afterwards, my computer, which was sitting on the table next to me, spontaneously generated a series of numbers. I took note of the time and went on with my evening, once the cat wandered off and my computer stopped acting weird.
    Really creepy at the time. The next day, I found out my grandmother had passed at around the same time all of that was going on.

    When I was a kid my mum used to tell me a story about how dogs could talk in the olden days. Whenever they would see a ghost or a spirit passing by, they would warn the humans nearby. This made the spirits angry and they took away the dog's ability to talk, so now the dogs can only bark.

    I think they can.
    The weirdest story I have heard happened on Cape Cod and my mother knew the family.
      A much beloved older woman was dying. Hospice was there at her home. Family members and her dog were beside the bed. The woman passed and then the dog took a deep breath, and died as well.
      True Story... No Joke!
